Description:

The Engineering Technician provides technical support for engineering, construction, and maintenance projects across public lands. This position assists professional engineers and project managers with surveying, design drafting, infrastructure assessments, and field inspections. The work supports safe and sustainable development of facilities such as roads, trails, campgrounds, and water systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in surveying, mapping, and layout for construction or maintenance projects.
  • Collect field data for roads, bridges, culverts, trails, and site infrastructure.
  • Prepare simple technical drawings, maps, or reports using AutoCAD, GIS, or similar tools.
  • Support inspection of structures, drainage systems, and recreation facilities.
  • Compile and enter data into databases, spreadsheets, and project files.
  • Maintain tools, surveying instruments, and safety equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and field crews to implement project plans.
  • Follow safety procedures and engineering quality standards during field operations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be age 18+
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest or coursework in civil engineering, construction management, surveying, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with basic engineering or drafting concepts.
  • Ability to read maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Competency in data collection and basic computer applications (Excel, GIS, AutoCAD preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and safety awareness.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments and on active project sites.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in engineering, construction, or natural resources preferred.

Schedule: Mon-Thurs, 7:00am-5:30pm
